When my husband (B) and I decided to start building our home there were a lot of factors that went into it. We knew this was going to be our forever home, so we wanted things to be perfect. We have always talked about having 3 children, so this house had to be big enough to accommodate that. We also both had things that we wanted in a house or needed. B knew that he needed to have a mud room to handle all the day to day business of working on a ranch, he also has always wanted a library. So those things are in the house. I have always wanted to have a really nice kitchen and an awesome master suite with a walk in closet. So those things are in the house. Then there were things that both of us really wanted like a media room. We know that the kids are going to LOVE it. Plus, who doesn't want to have the house that all the kids think is cool, so they hang out there. Planning for the future ;)
The best part about this whole experience is that we actually designed our house ourselves. We knew what our contractor wanted to do, so we worked within those limitations, but we designed most everything. I work with AutoCAD at work all the time, so I just made up plans and we gave them to our contractor. Then it was all made into a reality. It has been a fun and challenging process since we are about 6 hours away from the house....but we've made it work.
These are the plans that we started with, and we've stayed pretty close to the original plans which is pretty awesome.
I'm just so excited about our house and I wish we could share our joy with more people.
